WHO YOU ARE... - Ability to underwrite/review complex purchase and refinance transactions for multiple clients in a wholesale and correspondent lending environment
- A full understanding of recent FNMA/FHLMC underwriting guidelines is required
- Well versed in portfolio loans, jumbo, non-QM (DSCR), construction to perm and helocs
- Must be conversant with QM and ATR regulations
- Thorough knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to the mortgage banking industry (i.e.: TILA, ECOA, RESPA, etc.)
- Ability to manage conflicting and demanding clients and priorities
- Tactful and educational communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced multi-tasked environment
- Strong Appraisal and Condo review skills
- Strong commitment to customer service
- Expert knowledge of AUS systems (DU/DO/LPA/GUS)
- Government underwriting experience desired (FHA, VA, USDA)
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING... - Ensure loans are underwritten in accordance with underwriting standards, risk management factors and guidelines established by the lender (portfolio), secondary market investors and/or agency guidelines
- Thorough review of loan files to determine deficiencies and/or issues and concise and accurate conditioning of loan files
- Ensure client SLAs are met
- Analyze complex personal and business tax returns to include but not limited to numerous income/loss schedules for high-net worth individuals
- Maintain working knowledge of underwriting guidelines and mortgage compliance, while staying current on all GSE updates
- Take ownership of problems and provide working solutions to our Loan Officers to assist with loan restructuring
- Communicate with processor and LO in a positive manner in order to assist in moving files to closing as quickly as possible
- Work with necessary parties to resolve post closing audits
- Concise and accurate input of data
- Run AUS and vendor software to additionally analyze the results
- Complete a thorough review and sign off of appraisals for complex property types and higher property values ($1MM+)
- Clear conditions as submitted while meeting turn time objectives
- Maintain acceptable quality control metrics
- Ability to train and mentor peers
- Support and work on multiple loans to one borrower
IDEALLY, YOU'LL HAVE... - 7+ years current underwriting experience
- A minimum of 5 years recent experience focused on high net worth/private wealth clientele
- Strong background in DSCR Loan Programs
- Extensive experience underwriting complex borrower profiles
- Construction to perm and heloc experience preferred
- Condo review experience preferred
- Active NMLS license in NY desired
- MeridianLink experience desired
