THIS POSITION IS FOR 8 HOURS PER DAY AT 260 DAYS PER YEAR.
PAY FOR POSITION: PSE SALARY SCHEDULE LEVEL 12 - $ 36.79/hour This position's responsibilities are to maintain and repair fire and intrusion alarms in buildings and facilities throughout the district. Responsibilities include performing electrical maintenance and repair; installing and repairing fire alarms, intrusion alarms, security and intercom systems, telephones and a variety of low voltage equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Depending upon individual assignment, the Maintenance Technician - Alarms may perform all or a combination of the following:
1. Designs, installs and identifies and corrects problems in security systems, including fire and intrusion alarms.
2. Maintains and repairs the district's fire and system alarms including wiring new circuits; replacing wiring, switches and receptacles. Diagnoses problems, makes adjustments and repairs on-site where possible and otherwise coordinates with outside vendors.
3. Installs computer controlled hardware in fire alarms, intrusion alarms and intercom/telephone systems. Designs, programs, installs and tests software.
4. Maintains security of confidential alarm codes.
5. Performs a wide variety of repairs and maintenance on intercoms, clocks and bells, broad band television and video systems.
6. Installs, identifies and corrects problems with fire sprinkler systems.
7. Responds to emergency calls regarding alarm systems; ensures that systems are operational; makes repairs on-site as necessary; secures locations in conjunction with fire and police personnel.
8. Diagnoses and determines work to be performed; determines supplies needed and estimates cost for repairs.
9. Conducts on-site training for computerized building systems, orders parts.
10. Responds to requests from school staff regarding operation of equipment; answers questions and provides instructions. Provides related hardware and software support to administrative and instructional staff. Assigns codes to authorized staff.
11. Repairs circuit boards for a variety of equipment.
12. Maintains part stock in assigned repair vehicle.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
13. Maintains service records; completes service forms, maintains log of service calls and maintains notes and information not found in manufacturers' service manuals.
14. Maintains current knowledge of fire and intrusion alarms and intercom/telephone systems, and National Electrical Code.
15. Assists with repairs involving plumbing, HVAC, carpentry and other construction skills as required.

16. Checks and maintains fluid and gas levels in assigned van.
17. Maintains a clean and safe assigned shop work space, including assigned vehicle.
18. May serve on various district committees and/or departmental work teams. Models appropriate and cooperative behavior, including protecting confidential information, consistent with district ethical guidelines.
19. Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to Director of Facilities. Receives guidance from Maintenance Crew Lead.
MENTAL DEMANDS
May occasionally deal with distraught or difficult individuals; required to convey technical information to non-technical staff.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Required to be accessible during off-hours to return to work for emergencies; required to stand for prolonged periods; required to lift, move or carry objects weighing more than forty (40) pounds; exposed to ordinary infectious diseases carried by students; required to take precautions to avoid exposure to fumes, cutting or potentially crushing machinery and equipment and electrical current; required to work outdoors in inclement weather; may be exposed to clear danger to physical safety when responding to intrusion/fire alarms;; exposed to high noise levels; required to operate motor vehicle on public roads; required to crouch, crawl, bend or work in confined areas.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Education, training, skills, and experience necessary to carry out the assignment, and four (4) years of increasingly responsible electrical experience, that includes experience with fire and intrusion alarm systems.
Allowable Substitutions
Advanced technical training may substitute for the required work experience on a year-for-year basis; and such other alternatives to the above qualifications that the district may find appropriate and acceptable.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrated skills in electrical repair and maintenance including fire and intrusion alarms. Knowledge of software installation and operation. Knowledge of the construction skills. Skill in use of appropriate tools and equipment including electrical safety testing equipment. Skill in identifying and correcting problems, repair and maintenance of intrusion and fire alarms. Ability to estimate repair costs. Ability to determine cost effectiveness of repairs. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical staff. Knowledge of maintenance safety procedures, including lifting techniques. Ability to use a ladder safely and operate at heights. Ability to operate hydraulic lift and bucket truck. Ability to read and understand electrical schematics. Ability to maintain flexibility and redirect work efforts as needed. Ability to read and understand blueprints. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of others.
Licenses/Special Requirements
Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine that there have been no convictions involving physical molestation, abuse, injury or neglect of a minor. Must complete training in and adhere to district infection control plan. Washington state electrician-limited energy journeyman level license or Washington state electrical journeyman license. Valid Washington state driver's license and a good driving record.
