Equal Rights Advocates (ERA) is seeking a  National Campaign Staff Attorney to help support ERA’s national campaigns and coalition work, which are centered on defending civil rights, advancing gender justice, and accelerating the pace of reform for women and people across genders.

Job Responsibilities

As the National Campaign Staff Attorney, your role will report to the National Campaign Director/ Director of Equal Pay Today. The role entails supporting ERA-led campaigns by:

  • Collaborating on work plans and strategy memos for national campaigns.
  • Assisting in material production, project management, events, and coalition calls for ERA’s campaigns, including Equal Pay Today (EPT), Stop Harassment State Network, Family Voices Amplified, and other national campaigns.
  • Researching and drafting talking points and remarks for public presentations by the National Campaign Director.
  • Drafting blogs, fact sheets, sign-on letters, reports, and other collateral in support of campaigns.
  • Aiding in federal agency outreach coordination and in drafting regulatory comments and advocacy materials for the federal executive branch advocacy.
  • Tracking, monitoring, and analyzing executive branch and state and federal legislative progress on Equal Pay Today Policy Agenda priorities.
  • Helping coordinate EPT’s equal pay days, including collaborating with the Communications team to leverage equal pay day toolkits and developing content for our Equal Pay Today website, collaborating with the Policy team on toolkit distribution and legislative material, and assisting the National Campaign Director with EPT membership and equal pay day coordination activities.
  • Collaborating on ideas for the expansion of campaigns and state outreach strategies.
  • Coordinating with organizational and individual members of coalitions and networks that form the core of ERA’s economic security and educational equity campaigns and emerging initiatives.
  • Helping cultivate and manage relationships with ERA’s current and prospective partners.
  • Conducting research related to community outreach, potential partnerships, and fundraising opportunities.
  • Working cross-departmentally and with consultants on community workshops and collateral material for our Family Voices project.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A law degree with 2-5+ years of relevant experience;
  • An understanding of legislative and regulatory processes;
  • Ability to research, analyze, and synthesize policy-related information and related materials;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to civil rights, racial justice, gender equity, and social justice; and dedication to advancing policies that will improve the lives of women and other marginalized communities;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow through;
  • A collaborative, flexible mindset, with a demonstrated capacity to work on teams, take on different roles, and have a solution-oriented approach;
  • Strong organizational, project and time management skills, including demonstrated capacity to manage and prioritize competing projects and deadlines on fast-paced, quick turnaround environment;
  • Self-motivated, curious and have a growth mindset;
  • Exceptional work-ethic and sense of responsibility; detail-oriented, with focus on quality and accuracy; resourceful at getting to the root of problems and finding solutions;
  • Comfortable in a tech-oriented, paper-less environment and adept at navigating various systems and Apps, including but not limited to Microsoft 365 product, internal messaging (i.e. Slack), expenses, time tracking (i.e. Paylocity Timesheets), virtual telecom and video meetings (i.e. RingCentral, Zoom, Teams), legislative tracking and action alert systems, and other cloud-based systems/applications ;
  • Committed to equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism;
  • Experience in grassroots and/or grasstops organizing a plus.
  • Experience in employment law a plus.
  • Ability to travel locally (within the DC area) for work-specific meetings and willingness to travel (fly) to ERA’s headquarters in San Francisco at least once a year.

Other

  • The position is based in the Washington DC-area only and will work from home
  • The position will require some DC-based travel for meetings.
  • Candidate must have a valid authorization to work in the United States. ERA is unable to sponsor work visas. ERA will also not provide relocation assistance.

Compensation

The Policy and National Campaign Staff Attorney position has an annual salary range of $75,000 - $90,000 dependent on experience and skill set.
