Science Camp Trail Guides to work at the Irvine Outdoor Education Center, an overnight, year-round camp learning facility located in Orange, CA. This contract is for the fall season which runs from now to Dec 20th.
Compensation & Schedule The pay range for this position is $16.50-$18.50 per hour and employees will be compensated 35 hours per week ($577 to $647 per week), plus a semi-private room and meals for the duration of the contract. This is a residential overnight position that requires living onsite at camp. Shifts vary and periodic weekend work is required.
Roles & Responsibilities of the Outdoor Science Camp Trail Guide The Outdoor Science Camp Trail Guide leads campers through activities ranging from hands-on science experiments, nature journaling, ecology hikes, and more while maintaining safety and program integrity. Trail Guides should enjoy working with youth, appreciate the outdoors, and follow the IROEC and Scouting America Missions.
- Guide elementary and middle school campers through trails and programs
- Maintain a positive learning environment in a variety of settings, outdoor & in
- Initiate games to play with your campers & be interested in who they are as people
- Lead songs, skits, and large group games
- Demonstrate knowledge and curiosity about California's ecosystems, or be willing to learn and teach these topics
- Lead discussions about S.T.E.M. principles with campers
- Work with your team to promote positive behavior and culture
- Assist with equipment inventory & maintenance
- Function in accordance with Scouting America and American Camp Association industry standards.
Minimum Qualifications - Must be able to fulfill the essential requirements of the position
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to work a varying work schedule including weekdays and evenings
- Ability to work independently, while adhering to a fast-paced daily schedule
- Has or is willing to obtain certification in Red Cross (or another approved vendor) Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED within 30 days of employment
