Job Description
Van Andel Institute (VAI), a world-class biomedical research institute, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is dedicated to improving human health. We are pioneers in the fight against cancer, Parkinson's, and other diseases. We are committed to inspiring the next generation of scientists and educators.
Van Andel Institute's (VAI) Laboratory of Tao Yang, Ph.D. has a position available for a
Postdoctoral Fellow. The lab is interested in the discovery of molecular mechanisms of skeletal development and skeletal disorders, such as osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. This position focuses on deciphering how genetic etiologies advance aging, cause diseases or control sex dimorphism in the skeletal system. The position offers an exciting opportunity to study skeletal biology by utilizing cutting-edge molecular and cell biology techniques, multi-omics, genetic mouse models, and patient specimens to unravel the complex interplays between stem cell activity, microenvironment, and epigenetic and metabolic status. The key mechanism uncovered from these works will be translated into developing new therapeutics to slow skeletal aging and disease onset.
Necessary Qualifications - A recent (0-3 years) Ph.D. graduate with a strong background in skeletal biology, cell biology, biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, biochemistry, gene/cell therapy or a related field in the basic sciences.
- Curiosity in stem cells, aging, regenerative biology, mouse genetics, epigenetics, metabolism, and/or bioinformatics is also important.
- A detail-oriented researcher who thinks critically to design experiments and solve complex research problems effectively.
- A strong ability to take initiative and work independently.
- A collaborative, hands-on researcher who proactively shares knowledge and expertise with lab members.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
