Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety Officer/Coordinator to join our client’s team in Charlottetown, PE. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs and policies to ensure a safe working environment. This role requires a proactive individual who can effectively manage safety procedures and promote a culture of safety within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
Coordinate and deliver safety training programs for employees, including orientation, refresher courses, and specialized training as needed.
Maintain accurate records of safety-related activities, including training, inspections, incidents, and corrective actions.
Liaise with regulatory agencies, insurance representatives, and other external parties on safety-related matters.
Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and other stakeholders to ensure safety is integrated into all phases of project planning and execution.
Monitor and enforce the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols on job sites.
Stay current with industry best practices, trends, and advancements in safety technology and methodologies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a safety role, preferably within the construction or electrical contracting industry.
Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Safety Officer (CSO), or equivalent is highly desirable.
Thorough knowledge of local, provincial, and federal safety regulations and standards.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct thorough investigations and risk assessments.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and influence others.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and safety management software.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites as needed.
