Position Overview: The School Social Worker will provide support and services to students, helping them overcome social, emotional, and academic challenges. This role is crucial in fostering a safe and supportive school environment where every student can thrive.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide individual and group counseling to students to address social, emotional, and behavioral issues.
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to develop intervention strategies for students in need.
Conduct assessments to identify students’ needs and develop appropriate action plans.
Offer crisis intervention and support as needed.
Facilitate communication between the school, home, and community resources to ensure comprehensive support for students.
Develop and implement programs to enhance students' social skills, coping mechanisms, and overall well-being.
Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions and progress.
Participate in IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings and provide input on student support plans.
Advocate for students' rights and needs within the educational system.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Michigan.
Possession of a 310 letter, authorizing practice in school social work.
Strong understanding of child and adolescent development.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse school community.
Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in an educational setting.
Knowledge of local community resources and services.
Bilingual abilities are a plus.
