We’re hiring a Senior Mortgage Loan Underwriter for our Homeownership Division.

You will:

  • Leverage a high level of decision-making authority, particularly with DE (Direct Endorsement) and VA LAR (Veterans Affairs Loan Agent) credentials, to independently underwrite residential loan applications. Evaluating complex financial scenarios, assessing creditworthiness, and making informed decisions to approve or deny loans in alignment with regulatory requirements and NH Housing policies.
  • Provide guidance and direction to lending analysts regarding complex underwriting related matters and operational issues; authorize appropriate solutions to resolve issues.
  • Monitor and analyze changes to applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations; develop action plans for implementation/dissemination and coordinate changes within the division. Review and analyze loan applicants’ financial status, credit reports, title insurance commitments, property appraisals and legal documents.
  • Compile information and documents to support credit decisions and determine loan risk including all documents required by the underwriting findings and other requirements.
  • Communicate and document reasons for approval or denial of loans to keep staff and loan officers well-informed.

What’s required? 

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant work experience (in residential lending, reviewing credit documentation and underwriting to agency and investor guidelines).
  • FHA Direct Endorsement designation required. VA SAR designation highly preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of Desktop Underwriter (DU), Loan Prospector (LP) and FHA Total Mortgage Scorecard.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all eligibility and underwriting requirements (law, regulations, policies, and guidelines) set by the agencies.
  • Experience with paperless Loan Original System required. Experience with Encompass preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of appraisal process and warrantable condo guidelines preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Starting Pay: $63,448 annual - $79,259 annual, dependent on relevant experience.
