Job Description

DESCRIPTION : St. Paul’s School seeks a Spanish Teacher to begin duties in late August 2025. The St. Paul’s School Language Department requires students to not only master the mechanics of another language but also to immerse themselves in the arts, traditions, and customs of those who speak it. Under the direction of the faculty – and aided by the multimedia Language Center – students come to understand different ways of thinking and living. The result is a consciousness that is truly global. Extensive offerings are provided in four modern languages – Chinese, French, German, and Spanish – and in Latin and Greek, taught for beginners through a multitude of courses for advanced students.

RESPONSIBILITIES : The primary responsibility will be to teach classes of introductory and more advanced levels of Spanish at the secondary level. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment working with other Spanish teachers, with the faculty of the languages department, and with the broader faculty in advancing the mission of the School and the commitment to teaching and learning in a holistic educational environment. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching Spanish language and culture and have an understanding of boarding school life.

The faculty member will be responsible for the following teaching tasks:

  • Teach four classes from beginning through advanced levels.
  • Use technology to enhance language learning.
  • Promote the study of languages at St. Paul’s School through activities outside the classroom.
  • Possess knowledge of current trends in pedagogy and scholarship.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, faculty at St. Paul’s School are responsible for a variety of activities typical to the boarding school environment, including advising, dormitory association, coaching, committee work, and other duties. Preference will be given to candidates who have an understanding of boarding school life. As with all positions, St. Paul’s Schools seeks educators who will embrace the fully residential living experience and have a demonstrated gift for engaging a diverse student body and strengthening the St. Paul’s School inclusive community.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS :

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in language of instruction, Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience : Successful candidates should have five or more years teaching experience, with an ability to teach all levels of the language. The ideal candidate will also be able to teach French in addition to Spanish. Candidates should demonstrate a high level of proficiency in speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Candidates should also have a lively interest in literature, current pedagogy, and scholarship. As part of residential boarding school, the candidate must be committed to working and living with adolescents and supporting their academic, social, and emotional growth.

St. Paul’s School is proud to be an equal opportunity employer with a strong commitment to principles of diversity. St. Paul’s School does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, ethnic origin, disability, gender, or sexual orientation, and complies with applicable laws for the protection of civil rights.
