Summary
The Special Education Coordinator (SEC) is an experienced member of the Watch Me Shine team and specializes in education and early intervention practices. The SEC will work closely with the Clinicians, Classroom Teachers, and Center Director along with Foundations, Inc. to perform their roles. The SEC will provide support and guidance to classroom teachers and other team members. The SEC will assist in overseeing classroom management, programming, and supervision, as well as consistency of teaching methods, support and training of new and current staff. It is the role of the SEC to ensure all areas of learning and development are being addressed for all children.
Essential Job Functions
Includes the following:
Administrative Responsibilities
Coordinates, leads, attends, or directs intakes and team meetings in a timely and professional manner. This includes but is not limited to: student and family tours, intake meetings, progress meetings, etc.
Cultivates, models, and enforces a respectful, professional, collaborative environment.
Conducts assessments of students in order to create comprehensive treatment plans, progress reports, and programs.
Ensures assessments are repeated as required in order to comply with state and federal rules & regulations.
Ensures ITP’s, Progress Reports, Daily Notes, etc. are comprehensive, professionally organized, individualized, and up to date for all clients.
Maintains accurate and complete student records, due date logs, supervision logs, client communications, etc. in order to ensure paperwork is completed and recorded in order to comply with the program and state & federal rules and regulations.
Ensures all student and staff records are complete, signed, and filed in accordance to MaineCare and WMS rules and regulations. Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence in a timely manner.
Ensures a continuous flow of communication between classrooms, teachers, and team in order to ensure consistent communication and quality standards are being met
Ability to speak effectively and professionally while demonstrating a calm composure with staff and parents.
Supervisor Responsibilities
Oversee and manage 4 classrooms and client case loads for the 4 classrooms
Responsible for overseeing teachers with programming and classroom management, ensuring they maintain a consistent level of provided service within each classroom.
Supports classroom teachers to ensure each client is receiving the best programming possible and making progress towards their learning goals. Ensures both WMS primary and secondary curriculums are being used as designed and staff are correctly implementing the interventions.
Supervises and conducts regular classroom assessments (formal and information) of both staff and students to ensure program fidelity and quality are delivered in accordance to WMS program standards.
Ensures student programs are delivered in a comprehensive and individualized manner. Assesses student progress monthly. Supports classroom teachers with behaviors, conducting FBA and developing behavior programs when necessary.
Ensures teacher and paraprofessional reviews are conducted at least monthly and annually in accordance to WMS policies and procedures.
Works with Foundations, Inc. to ensure program fidelity and quality.
Oversees each classroom to ensure room is organized for therapeutic and daily activity purpose.
Assists teachers with training and supervision of new teachers and basic WMS philosophies, rules, and regulations.
Ensures WMS’s mission, philosophies and core values are taught and adhered to.
Ensure providers are accurately and thoroughly completing and updating daily notes, timesheets, My Day’s and other documentation in accordance to WMS policy. Ensures daily notes are complete and neat prior to submitting to finance.
Supports in hiring and onboarding procedures and training with new or seasoned staff
Follows up with teachers and paraprofessionals to ensure questions are answered and training is continually maintained.
Maintains knowledge, attends trainings and workshops of early intervention programs, school administrative functions and procedures.
Maintains open and honest communication, giving feedback in a timely manner. Ensure questions are answered within 1-2 school days and supports staff when requested.
Ability to interpret and complete a variety of instructions.
All other duties as assigned.
Teacher Responsibilities
It is necessary for the SEC to know their students intimately in order to best serve them. Therefore, the SEC is required to provide 15-20 hours weekly direct service within the classroom with the students. This also provides a model for the classroom teachers and paraprofessionals. SEC’s need to ensure they work equally between the 4 classrooms and grades of students in order to equally support their classroom teachers and students.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Bachelor’s degree
Required amount of master’s level coursework in early intervention/special education/education/social work or other related field from a four-year college or university is preferred
Three to four years related experience and or training; in order to acquire 282 teacher certification
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as decimals, proportions and percentages
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS and LICENSES:
Special Education Teacher Certification (282) with State of Maine
You are responsible for maintaining an active teacher certification through the State of Maine. WMS will reimburse costs of this certification.
Crisis Prevention and Intervention Training with in the first 3 months
Certified Behavioral Health Professional (50 Hours) within the first year.
CPR/First Aid certification within the first year.
Pass an extensive criminal history, child protection and motor vehicle check.
Possess a valid Maine Driver’s License and the ability to operate a motor vehicle and carry proper insurance as laid out in the staff policy manual.

Pay: $48,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
